Sushi Making & Tea Ceremony: Explore the concepts of a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony and use that knowledge to craft a “Florida Tea Ceremony” with lemongrass tea directly from the EEE garden! On the menu: vegetable + fruit sushi rolls and ginger salad from scratch.
World War 1: Learn about aspects of WWI including victory gardens and propaganda. Experience cooking outdoors with limited rations, almost as if cooking in the trenches like the WW1 soldiers did.
Around the World: Through food and ingredients we can learn and explore a specific regions history and importance. Choose several dishes from regions around the world and explore how food is connected to the past, present, and even its importance into the future!
Spice it up! with Curry: Learn about and craft different styles of curry, including Indian, Thai, and Caribbean. Smell the aromatics as you blend all of the spices fresh in mortal and pestle and learn about each curry’s unique region.
Silk Road: Examine the history and regions of the ancient Silk Road (and even ponder it’s future) to learn about the ingredients, tools, and other ‘goods’ that were traded along its route. Practice your trade skills with fellow students to complete your dish - rice pudding!
Food & Agriculture of the Aztecs: Learn about how cacao is processed from a plant and turned into a chocolate drink, as well as cacaos importance in the Aztec Culture. Create tamales, pozole & guacamole from scratch while also learning about the role corn had in Aztec agriculture.
Medieval Feast: Explore Medieval life and culture by crafting authentic Medieval European recipes. Host a lavish feast to enjoy your delicious creations complete with a King, Queen, and royal food taster.
Pasta & it’s Pairings: Learn the basics behind traditional pasta dough and methods, while also exploring just how regional pasta is! Try your hand at making fettuccini, ravioli, gnocchi, tortellini, the possibilities are endless for this class! Complete with accompaniments of seasonal sauce and a big garden salad.
Tastes of the Seasonal Garden: Explore the flavors of the garden while learning to properly hold & use a chef knife. Practice chopping, slicing, & dicing your garden harvest! Options for curriculum integration are nearly endless while learning in the garden and kitchen. (Examples: winter garden tabbouleh, fall roasted veggie salad, summer fruit salad, spring dill potatoes)
Come up with your own theme: Pizza, cheese making, nutrition, meal-prep, baking, breakfast foods, food competitions, history of French (or other) cuisine, Lewis & Clark, or choose something of your choice!
